Michelle Renee is a woman who has overcome Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). According to Global Shift, the mother of one endured an abusive childhood. She became a teen runaway who eventually climbed to success as a bank executive by the age of 30.
One night, Renee was at home alone with her eight-year-old daughter, when three masked gunmen broke down the door. They taped explosives to their bodies and held them hostage for 14 hours. At the end, they forced Renee to leave her daughter in order to rob her own bank. They had been watching her for weeks.
She told the news source that the hostage situation brought back the memories of the trauma from her abusive childhood. The woman added that her PTSD symptoms were severe, and included sleeplessness and scratching at her skin.
Now Renee says that she is healed to the point where she can remember it without having to relive it, according to the news source.
Studies have shown that about 30 percent of veterans, 45 percent of battered women, 50 percent of sexually abused children and 35 percent of adult rape victims are likely to suffer from PTSD at some point in their lifetime, Emotional Tuning reports.
