Teens who have been diagnosed with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) often need to follow daily rules in order to stay focused and organized. To reduce the daily stress of keeping a routine, parents of ADHD sufferers can follow a few simple behaviors to help their child, ADDitude reports.
For example, instead of chastising a teen for the tasks they have completed incorrectly, parents ought to celebrate what they have done right. Showing love and respect can help teens with ADHD feel "normal" throughout their day.
Allowing clutter or mess to become a hostile issue can inhibit teens from wanting to be organized. Letting a child be messy sometimes can help them remember that perfection is not the most important goal.
Another useful tip is to allow teens to feel their frustration. If they are upset, allowing them to express their feelings and remaining calm can be the first step in helping them relax.
According to the Centers for Disease Control, children with ADHD have trouble paying attention, controlling impulsive behaviors and, in some cases, are overly active.
