Movie star admits former self-esteem issues

By Staff Writer

This week, Rachael Leigh Cook, who rose to fame with the movie She's All That, recently told the media that she is on a campaign against Photoshop. Pop Eater reports that the starlet believes doctored images of celebrities have a potentially negative effect on young people's self-esteem.

Cook directed her argument to the audience at the Healthy Media for Youth Summit in Washington, D.C. She told listeners that none of the images in magazines are real, and that even what looks like a candid photo of someone can be altered.

Despite her healthy attitude toward media pressure, CBS News reports that the actress admitted to struggling with her own body-image issues, following her weight gain as a teen.

She added that teenagers are in a transitional phase of life, and often look for a sense of control, so it can be a pretty normal reaction to develop food issues. Cook also expressed disappointment in the entertainment industry.

According to the National Association for Self-Esteem, 90 percent of eating disorders are found in girls.
