Blogging site releases report on teens, money and stress

By Staff Writer

According to a study called Confronting Teen Stress, Meeting the Challenge in Baltimore City, schoolwork, parents, friends' problems, romantic relationships and drugs in the neighborhood cause adolescents the greatest amount of anxiety. However, finances are also a source of stress for many teens.

In an effort to help adolescents gain a healthier relationship with money, StageofLife.com - a blogging resource - recently released a report called Teens and Money. The study is a collection of responses to the prompt: What is your relationship with money? How do you spend (or save) and why? A total of 3,335 teens and young adults responded with 500 word essays.

The data shows trends such as anger towards world financial and economic institutions, and frustrations with personal budgeting. While stress and money were commonly linked together, some people found peace with their bank accounts. For example, Justina Tran, a blogger on the site, said that she is confident that stressing over money will not overshadow her life.

The report suggested that teens who need help with their finances ought to seek out financial assistance through resources such as Mint.com, which aim to help individuals organize their funds.
